THEME: Steps to build Youth Leaders on New Media and strengthen the use of New Media in Sri Lanka.
This Youth Leadership conference on New Media 2010 targets the youth in Sri Lanka on giving knowledge on the use of new media and its importance to journalism, freedom of expression, youth leadership and civic engagement .Even though most of our youth generation is familiar with new media such as Facebook , Twitter, blogger and other social networks, they are not utilized to their fullest potential.
The main Themes,
- Looking at how the youth can learn how to create difference in the way they use New Media
- Capacity building for the youth.
- Coordination and collaboration.
- Creating global collaboration among organizations and individuals who want to uplift the mission

NEW MEDIA AND ITS APPLICATION TO JOURNALISM IN SRI LANKA

This session will focus on what is new media, value of new media and the specific applications that are used today. Students will learn about the impact of blogging and new media can have on society and learn the basics of building and publishing blogs ,using twitter, the benefits of online social networking, You tube , and other application. Also it will focus on current use of new media in journalism in Sri Lanka.

FREE WEB 2.0 APPLICATION

This session will go in depth on the use of free web technologies, how to build a blog using these technologies, and will conclude with a team brainstorming session to determine blog topics for the group projects.

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
AKILA IRANTHA
This session concentrates on team building, collective problem solving and effective communication. The speaker will lead a discussion on the importance of leadership and being a leader. This session will motivate the participants to see that even though they may face challenges, the leadership they show through their independent behaviour will be vital importance to their success.
